Las Vegas

Posted by Johnny Lodden 12/07/10

Las Vegas 2010 is coming to an end, but before that, I’m planning to reach the final table in the Main Event!

I’ve only played one side event this year, the 3k triple chance, but that one didn’t go well….
The Main Event however is looking much better, at the moment I have 114700 before Day 3 tomorrow.

On Day 1 there were a lot of crazy things going on at the tables, people who actually couldn’t play at all. I played Day 2 at possibly one of the toughest tables in the entire field which was kind of stupid, when I realized how many bad players still were out there after Day 1. But I had a good run and played well, and 45 minutes before the day ended, I had 160k, but lost a 45k pot where I 4 bet flop 227 with 2 spades, me holding 89 of hearts, but I had to fold when he 5 bet!
I can say almost 100% certain that the Main Event is the tournament with most value in it. It’s just so many bad players who have absolutely no chance of winning. They say it’s possible for everyone to win this, but there are just too many fishes, plain and simple.

Other than that, it’s really funny to see so many Norwegians doing well in the Main Event, or at least still playing, I believe 75% of the Norwegian people I’ve spoken to are still playing. Some names worth mentioning is; Ørjan ‘pompen’ Holt with 78k, Tore Lagerborg 110k, Thor Hansen 45k and last but not least, The big son of Norway, Petter Northug with 130k.
GL to all of them, and all other still remaining in the tournament!

It’s been a lot of fun and parties over here, the first week was insane, but luckily things calmed a bit down, so we managed to squeeze in time for some tanning, shopping and even some flops!
The best thing about Vegas is that it’s always something to do at the evening, always a lot of people, and new restaurants to try out. I really love going out with a bunch of good friends, do some fine dining and drink some wine. The only “bad” thing about it is that it’s ALWAYS someone who is trying to lure you out to some nightclub! If none of this sounds interesting you could always go to one of the many shows in town. We usually plan to go to several of these the first nights in town, but it never really happens! This trip we had Grand Canyon as our first priority to visit, but we haven’t accomplished this either after almost 3 weeks over here!!

This year I’m staying at the Encore, a hotel people really brag about, but personally I think the hotel, service, room and the pool area at Palazzo is better! So this is probably the first and only time I’m staying here. The only good thing about me staying here is the fact that many of the people I hang out with are staying here.

Back home I’ve changed my address from Grunerløkka to St.Haugen (Areas in Oslo) while I’ve been over here! I’m really looking forward to moving in to a big apartment instead of a small 1-bedroom apartment where we’ve been staying for the past year. I love my girlfriend, but 1 year in a 1-bedroom apartment is enough :D.

It’s only two more months until I change my profession too, from fulltime gambler to fulltime dad. I must admit I’m really looking forward to it. There has been a good amount of shopping things to our little girl over here. Even though her clothes isn’t bigger than my boxer shorts I’ve almost managed to fill an entire suitcase for her!

Now I’m going to relax in bed with a movie, and get a good night sleep before Day 3 starts tomorrow at 12:00

Johnny.
