EPT: Sam Phomveha Leads After Day 3 at Deauville

Posted by Lasse Hamar 04/02/12

At the start of Day 3 at EPT Deauville it was Ludovic Lacay who was supposed to lead the French charge of players. Things didn’t quite go according to plan however and Lacay, who started the day fourth in chips, was eliminated just before the day’s end and it was another Frenchman, Sam Phomveha, sitting on top of the leaderboard.

Phomveha finished the day with 1,471,000, good enough for nearly a 400,000 chip lead over his next closest competitor and fellow countryman, Olivier Rogez, who finished with 1,098,500. The closest threat to preventing the EPT title from staying on home soil is two Englishmen, Christopher Brammer and Martins Adeniya. Brammer sits third with 1,090,000 while Adeniya, the start of day chip leader, wrapped up the day with 979,000, good enough for fifth overall. In between those two is Yorane Kerignard, another French player, with 979,000.

The most notable name still in contention is that of Luca Pagano. The EPT cashing machine finished with 344,000 which puts him below the 494,000 chip average.

The day started with 178 players and just 30 from the money. The bubble bursting also sent a slew of players to the cashier window including Toby Lewis, James Dempsey and Lacay. Alan “BodogAri” Engel started the day short stacked and was eliminated early on before the bubble burst.

Day 4 begins at 6 am ET Saturday with the remaining 54 players playing down to 24 in pursuit of the €875,000 ($1.15 million US) first place prize.
