Anh Lu Tops Record Field For $182,750 Prize

The first of 12 events at the World Series of Poker Circuit stop at the Palm Beach Kennel Club attracted the biggest tournament field in Florida history. A total of 2,607 put up the $555 buy-in for a shot at the lion’s share of the $1,250,345 prize pool, which easily beat out the property’s $1 million guarantee.

The turnout was so strong that players began lining up for seats as early as 4 a.m. on Saturday, a good seven hours before play was scheduled to begin.

The line grew so long that scalpers showed up to try and sell entry to the tournament to those at the back of the line for as much as $2,000. Police were eventually called in to maintain some order.

Though some players were turned away, tournament officials created another starting flight to accomodate an additional 220 players, along with allowing alternates to jump in at the later levels.

The three-day event came to an end on Monday, with 50-year-old Anh Lu taking home the top prize of $182,750. The nail technician from Bradenton, Florida also picked up a gold WSOP Circuit ring.
